Men's Indoor Hockey Squad Continue Winning Streak


KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia continued its winning streak in the men's indoor hockey competition after defeating Thailand 4-0 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here, tonight.

The national squad opened accounts in the sixth minute of the first half through Muhammad Amirol Aideed Mohd Arshad before adding three more goals in the second half to complete the victory.

Malaysia who whipped the Philippines 16-0 and hammered Vietnam 15-0 yesterday, will meet Indonesia tomorrow before completing their round robin fixtures against Singapore on Thursday.

The top two teams will advance to the final while the third and fourth placed teams will battle for the bronze medal on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the women's squad was tied 1-1 with Indonesia at the same venue through a 23rd minute goal in the second half by Nur Aisyah Yaacob.

Yesterday, the squad opened their campaign by crushing the Philippines 19-0, whereby Nur Aisyah and Qasidah Najwa Muhd Halimi contributed four goals each in the match.

The squad will meet Thailand tomorrow before completing their round robin schedule against Singapore on Thursday.
