Family Surprises Muhammad Irfan In Special Attire

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The family members of the 29th SEA Games discus gold medalist Muhammad Irfan Shamshuddin today went to the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil donning eye-catching special attires.

Without letting Muhammad Irfan know, 15 family members including his parents wore light green clothes with the wordings 'Malaysia discus thrower record breaker' emblazoned on the front and the wordings 'Beast Mode' printed at the back, specially designed by his brother Syafiq Shamshuddin, 32.

In fact a banner was also seen hung at the stadium to scream the support of fans from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan for the 22-year-old national discus athlete today.

Muhammad Irfan successfully defended his gold medal in Singapore with a 58.36m throw today while Thailand's Narong Benjaroon (50.65m) took the silver and the bronze went to compatriot, Abdul Rahman Lee (44.80m).

After the medal presentation ceremony, Muhammad Irfan was seen running to his family members to share the joy of his victory and kissed both his parents after winning the gold medal for the third consecutive time in the biennial meet.

He won his first gold medal in the event at the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar.

His mother Rubiah Sidek, 64, said she was so proud of the youngest of nine children that the family spent almost RM750 to give Muhammad Irfan the attire surprise.
