Manyin Promises Clean Sweep For Bn In Bidayuh-majority Areas

KUCHING, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- Voters from the Bidayuh community who have thus far been loyal to Barisan Nasional (BN) will continue to contribute to BN's victory in the 14th General Election, says Sarawak Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong.

Manyin, who is also the vice-president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), said the Bidayuh community had never forgotten the government's contribution towards their advancement in various fields.

He said the more than 200,000-strong Bidayuh community in the state also stood firm behind Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg as chief minister of Sarawak and PBB president.

"The Bidayuh community also supports the chief minister's digital economy initiative to propel the economy of Sarawak,"he said during the launch ceremony of the triennial Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) delegates' meeting for Zone 3 branches, comprising Serembu, Mambong, Tarat, Tebedu, Kedup and Bukit Semunja which was officiated by Abang Johari here today.

Manyin said the increase in Internet connection speeds under the state's digital economy initiative which cost of RM1 billion, would benefit 80 per cent of the Bidayuh community, most of whom lived in rural areas.

He also thanked the chief minister for approving an allocation for the construction of a government and commercial complex in Serian town costing RM180 million, a government complex in Pekan Bau worth RM7.5 million, and the RM100-million Immigration, Customs and Quarantine Complex in Tebedu.

Also present at the function were Sarawak deputy chief ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who are both also PBB deputy presidents, as well as the party's secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
