MERSING, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- It is unsuitable for the online flood victim registration system to be expanded to all states as it can cause new problems to the state and district disaster management authorities, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.

He said he was aware that there was a proposal for the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to expand the online registration system, which is currently being implemented in Terengganu, to other states.

However, he said he found it irrelevant as it could create opacity in the registration of flood victims.

"Some non-evacuees might just register themselves as flood evacuees to get the compassionate money (distributed to flood victims)," he told a press conference after visiting the temporary relief centre at Sekolah Agama Kampung Pengkalan Batu here today.

Shahidan said this in response to Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek's proposal which called on NADMA to expand the online flood victim registration to ease the victim management process.....
