MMEA Foils Indonesian Skipper's Bid To Smuggle Illegal Medicinal Products To Tawau

TAWAU, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's (MMEA) Maritime District 18 (DM18), arrested an Indonesian skipper in the waters of Tawau Port after he attempted to smuggle various illegal medicinal products to Tawau last night.

Commanding officer of Balung Maritime ship, Lieutenant Commander Maritime Nik Mohd Izwan Farid Md Daud said the MMEA patrol boat carrying out patrols in the vicinity detained the fibre boat and arrested the 30-year-old skipper about 11.30pm after receiving intelligence information.

"Further examination of the boat found seven packages of medicines with no approval documents by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, which are believed to have been smuggled from Sungai Haji Kuning, Pulau Sebatik for the local market," he said in a statement here today.

In the meantime, a 28-year-old skipper of a boat failed in his bid to smuggle out controlled items worth RM13,110 after being detained by the Tawau Marine Police Force (PPM) in the waters of Sungai Tongkang yesterday.

Region Four PPM commander, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yazib Abd Aziz said a team of PPM personnel who conducted daily patrols in the area came across a suspicious looking boat from Sungai Tongkang heading to Sungai Haji Kuning, about 6.30pm.....
