Jelajah Malaysia: Local Cyclists Dominate In Alor Setar

ALOR SETAR, Oct 7 (Bernama) --Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) sprinter Mohd Hariff Saleh was on target to lead the final stage of Jelajah Malaysia 2017 (JM 2017) cycling competition here, finishing the 132.8-km route in three hours, eight minutes and seven seconds.

The fifth stage also saw local riders dominate the podium, Mohammad Saufi Mat Senan from Kelantan finished second, and Nur Amirull Fakhruddin Mazuki of TSG won third place.

The jury decided to award the same time to 65 riders who finished the race in a large group in today's race with three acceleration zones in Jitra, Pokok Sena and Alor Setar, which gave sprinters the advantage.

"In the first and second stages, there were many broken and hilly paths, I could not catch up. But today's route was perfect for me, so I gave it one hundred per cent to win," he told reporters after the race which began and ended at Menara Alor Setar, here.

However, the success was not enough for the 29-year-old to improve his overall position at 66th with a total time of 17:17:59.....
