Polis Arrest 488,491 People, Seize Drugs Worth RM548.19 Mln

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- Police arrested 488,491 people suspected of being involved in a drug trafficking syndicate with an estimated seizure value of RM548.19 million, between 2015 and July this year.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigations Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said 468,879 of the suspects were locals and 19,612 were foreigners.

"Of that number, 306,142 individuals tested positive for drugs," he told a media conference in Bukit Aman, here, today.

He said the synthetic drugs seized by police in 2015 were 407,475 ecstasy pills, yaba pills (538,176), erimin 5 pills (1.9 million), 1,771.30kg of syabu, while traditional drugs were 48.43kg of ketamine, 742.55kg of heroin and 52 ganja plants.

"The synthetic drugs seized in 2016 comprised 183,133 ecstasy pills, yaba pills (895,499), erimin 5 pills (1.8 million), 2,298.51kg of syabu, ketamine (641.01kg), while the traditional drugs were heroin (435.12kg) and 25 ganja plants," he said.....
