No Malaysian Affected In London Van Attack Incident - Foreign Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) -- There has yet to be reports of Malaysians affected in the van attack at the Finsbury Park Mosque, North London earlier today, the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry in a statement issued today said, the Malaysian government condemned the attack on innocent civilians and described it as particularly disconcerting, as it seemed to be specifically targeted at worshippers who had just finished their prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.

"Malaysia extends its condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the horrific incident. Malaysia hopes that the perpetrators will soon be brought to justice," it said.

Based on the report by Reuters, at least one person is dead and 10 others were injured when a van ploughed into worshippers near the mosque shortly after midnight (local time) on Monday, at a time when people were leaving after performing the Tarawih prayers.

The ministry said it was now closely monitoring the incident and the High Commission of Malaysia in London was in close contact with the local authorities and currently providing timely updates to the Malaysian community in the city over the incident.

The ministry also advised Malaysians residing around the affected areas to remain vigilant and follow the instructions by local authorities.
