Nepalese Factory Worker Jailed 22 Years For Death Of Countryman

MUAR, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- A Nepalese furniture factory worker was sentenced to 22 years jail by the High Court here today after finding him guilty of causing the death of a countryman two years ago.

Judge Datuk Halijah Abbas handed down the sentence on Shrestha Sujan, 19, after finding that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubts against the prosecution case at the end of the defence case.

He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on June 4, 2016.

Shrestha was charged with causing the death of Hom Bahadur Magar, in his 30s, during a fight at a quarters for workers at Poh Keong Industri Sdn Bhd, Batu 7 Bakri here between 11 pm and 11.50 pm on June 4, 2016.

He was charged under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence, which provides an imprisonment for up to 30 years, and is liable to fine, upon conviction.....
