MELAKA, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The Henry Gurney and integrity schools are not only focused on academics, but also various other fields including skills, arts and sports to rehabilitate and develop juvenile offenders.

Prisons Department deputy commissioner S. Kausalya Devi said this was because the department understood that not all of the students had a tendency to excel in academics.

Hence, she said the department wanted the students to be developed according to their respective abilities and be able to become a member of a community that could contribute to the development of the country upon their release.

"The Prisons Department is optimistic of developing and rebuilding the potential of the students including developing self-esteem and highlighting leadership characteristics as well as forming a positive and innovative mindset," she told a media conference after closing the schools' Arts and Culture Expressions programme here today.

About 100 students of Henry Gurney and integrity schools were involved in the programme.....
