PUTRAJAYA, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has declared "war" against illegal gambling activities and premises linked to corruption and abuse of power.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad said the anti-corruption body would take action against enforcement officers who were protecting the gambling syndicates and premises owners who offered bribes to enforcement authorities.

"The illegal gambling issue is not new. It's time for the MACC to take special measures and be more aggressive in combating such activities in the country," he told a media conference here, today.

Prior to that, Dzulkifli held a dialogue session with Gerakan Banteras Aktitivi Haram (GBAH), a coalition representing several Islamic non-governmental organisations at MACC Headquarters here.

GBAH chairman Masridzi Sat also handed over a memorandum of cooperation to Dzulkifli to express its strong support to the MACC's efforts in fighting corruption in the country.....
