Ahmad Sarji Receives Uniten Honorary Doctorate

BANGI, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid was today awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Management at the 20th Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) convocation here.

Uniten Chancellor Tun Dr Abdul Rahman Abbas, in his speech in conjunction with the convocation said the award was in recognition of his contributions and service towards national development, academic world and research in Malaysia and at international level.

Ahmad Sarji, in a special video screened at the convocation said the award would spur him to continue upgrading his knowledge and contribute to society.

The former chief secretary to the government also advised Uniten graduates receiving their degrees today, not to stop seeking knowledge despite having ended their studies, and become citizens who were always improving themselves.

Ahmad Sarji, who was born in Kampung Batu Tiga, Tapah, Perak was chief secretary to the government from 1990 until his retirement in 1996. Subsequently, he was Permodalan Nasional Berhad chairman from 1996 to 2016.

Uniten, in a statement said 3,000 graduates received their scrolls at the convocation this time.

"To date, Uniten has turned out 27,729 graduates since it was set up in 1997,"" it said.
