Three Outstanding University Graduates Awarded Tunku Medals

KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 (Bernama) -- Three university graduates who performed exceptionally well in academics and co-curricular activities received the 2016 Tunku Medal Award today.

The award introduced since 1979 by Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman was in appreciation of first class graduates of Bachelor's degree courses.

At the ceremony officiated by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, the gold medal was awarded to Universiti Sains Malaysia dentistry graduate James Lian Yoon Chen who received a 32gm solid gold and RM5,000 cash.

Hanisah Hassan a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery graduate from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, received the silver medal to take home 32gm of silver and RM3,000 cash.

The bronze medal went to Bachelor of Science (Physics) graduate from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Muhammad Khairul Adib Muhammad Yusof, who took home 32gm of bronze and RM1,000 cash.

Meanwhile, in PUTRAJAYA Idris announced that eight more public and private universities obtained the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) certificate of self-accreditation status whereby the university senate would be entrusted to accredit their own programmes at their respective universities.

The universities involved were Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), International Medical University (IMU), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM), Universiti Tuanku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and Universiti Multimedia (MMU).

Idris made the announcement during the Ministry's monthly gathering today.
