SHAH ALAM, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- About 10,000 jobs are expected to be created this year by 4,433 participants of the Bumiputera Tunas Entrepreneurship Programme (TUBE), Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said.

He said the figures were based on the Ministry of International Trade and Industry's (MITI) efforts to double the number of TUBE participants each year in order to encourage the younger generation to venture into business.

"Last year, we enlisted 1,000 TUBE participants and for this year, 2,000 youths will benefit from the programme by starting their own business.

"The number of TUBE participants will be increased to 3,000 next year and 5,000 in 2020," he told Bernama after officiating the Association of Selangor Tubers (ASET) here today.

Launched in 2014 during the Young Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Congress, TUBE was set up by MITI to cater to youths in the 18-30 age group, with strong in entrepreneurship, especially those equipped with basic skills certificates from local skills training institutions or centres.

The programme is being promoted as one of the youth entrepreneurship programmes towards the realisation of the 2050 National Transformation (TN50) goal.

Meanwhile, Ahmad said TUBE participants achieved accumulated sales of RM54.6 million in the 2014-2017 period, during which 2,433 entrepreneurs were created.

Meanwhile, ASET Patron Datuk Rosyam Nor said the association, made up of 250 entrepreneurs from the first to fourth series of TUBE, was aimed at gathering all former TUBE participants to share their experience and information in their respective fields of business.

He said TUBE needed to produce participants with critical thinking in line with the TN50 goal.

At the event, ASET members launched five companies, namely Syarikat PhysioMobileMy Clinic (physiotherapy service), Bujins L Batik Sdn Bhd (design services, manufacture and sale of canting batik), Top Empire Solution (printing service), Ozind Enterprise (ready-to-eat food business), and Discover IT Network (information technology System Integrator).
