Animation And Visual Effect Sector To Contribute RM3.04 Billion To GNI By 2020

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- The country's animation and visual effect industry is slated to contribute RM3.04 billion to gross national income (GNI), including providing over 10,000 job opportunities by 2020, said Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Yasmin Mahmood.

"The creative industry is expected to continue to expand and generate more skilled professionals in the field, including producing quality animation productions.

"This development is in tandem with the government's effort make Malaysia the technology and creative content hub in the region," he said.

He said this to reporters at the signing of a memorandum of understanding which involved strategic cooperation between local animation company Animamundi Studio Sdn Bhd and China Film Animation Industry Co Ltd today.

The creative animation industry has succeeded in putting Malaysia on the world animation map when locally-produced animated series 'Upin and Ipin' and 'Didi & Friends' successfully gained international screenings.....
