India Setting Up Nation's First Coral Garden In Gujarat

GANDHINAGAR, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Western Indian state of Gujarat is setting up the country's first coral garden showcasing rare and endangered coral species, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) with support of Tata Chemicals Ltd (TCL) will establish the coral garden at the Mithapur coastal region of Devbhoomi-Dwarka district.

WTI senior advisor B C Choudhury said the project will be funded by the Gujarat Forest Department under a memorandum of understanding signed with the state government.

The Mithapur Coral Garden will house nearly all coral species found in the Gulf of Kutch, an inlet of the Arabian Sea along the west coast of India.

It will feature among other things wading, snorkeling, diving, jetty and boat anchoring areas.
