Indonesia Records Rise In Honda Sales In First Half

JAKARTA, July 17 (Bernama) - Sales of Honda cars surged 68 percent to 82,647 units in the first half of 2014, up from 49,342 units in the same period last year, Indonesia' ANTARA news agency reported.

Jonfis Fandy, marketing director of Honda's agent PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM), said sales grew above the average rate recorded by car manufacturers in the country.

Vehicle sales grew by an average of seven percent year-on-year from January to June to 642,311 units compared to 602,215 units over the corresponding period in 2013.

Jonfis attributed the surge in sales of Honda cars to the new low-cost green car (LCGC) product Mobilio whose sales reached 46,446 units or 56.1 percent of sales volume in the first half of the year.

Honda Brio Satya sold 11,463 units and accounted for 13.9 percent of total sales.

The third largest contributor is Honda Brio with sales reaching 1,714 units or 8.3 percent of total sales in the first half of 2014.

HPM, the 5th largest car manufacturer in the country, is targeting sales of 175,000 units this year.

"Despite strong competition in the car market we are optimistic sales of Honda cars will grow in the second half of the year with its new products," Jonfis said.
