Vietnamese Police Arrest Over 44,900 Drug Suspects In One-year Operation

HANOI, July 16 (Bernama) - Police arrested over 44,900 suspects involved in drug cases during a one-year operation against drug crime, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

Police also confiscated 797.1 kg of heroin, 69.7 kg opium and 171.3 kg and 390,000 meth pills in 29,338 cases throughout the operation launched since July last year.

The Drug Crime Investigation Police Department alone seized 242.7 kg of heroin, 5.5 kg opium and 30.6 kg and 164,635 meth pills in 127 cases.

The department has coordinated with ministries, localities and the media to enhance awareness among ethnic minority groups and those living in border areas on the dangers of drugs and call for their involvement in the fight against drugs.

Drug Crime Investigation Police Department deputy head Do Kim Tuyen said more anti-drug raids focusing on border areas and sea and air routes will be launched in future.
