Vietnam's Green Volunteer Campaign Targets 90,000 Participants

HANOI, July 14 (Bernama) -- Organisers are targeting 90,000 participants in the nationwide 21st Green Summer Volunteer Campaign which kicked off in Hanoi on Sunday.

The one-month campaign is to encourage youths to take up volunteering activities, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

The campaign focuses on volunteer activities in cities and provinces in the southern region and Central Highlands with some activities being held in Laos.

On Sunday, the HCM City Students Association and the Youth Union in Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony to launch the programme with initial participation of more than 4,000 youths.

HCM City Party deputy secretary Nguyen Thi Thu Ha who attended the event hailed volunteers for their contributions towards the development of the community.

On the same day, the campaign was launched in southern province of Soc Trang which will see more than 500 students including from Can Tho, Hau Giang and Vinh Long provinces and HCM City take part in activities in remote areas.

The volunteers will help clean roads, distribute materials on hygiene and rice farming to ethnic groups.
