Chow And Mak Emerge As Malaysian Sole Survivor At Chinese Taipei Open

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- National men's doubles pair, Chow Pak Chuu and Mak Hee Chun became Malaysia's sole representative as other players bowed out from the 2014 Chinese Taipei Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold held at the Taipei Arena.

The unseeded pair defeated Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pankaryanira and Ade Yusuf of Indonesia; 21-19 and 21-12 in the third round match, today to book their place into the last eight of the US$200,000 (RM635,327) tournament, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website;www.bwfbadminton.org.

Chow and Mak will square-off against Japanese Hiroyuki Saeki and Ryota Taohata in the quarter-final, tomorrow after the pair knocked out Malaysian pair, Tai An Khang and Woon Mun Choon; 21-16 and 21-12.

Another Malaysian pair, Chooi Kah Ming and Teo Ee Yi also failed to advance further after losing 19-21 and 14-21 against Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen of China.

In the men's singles category, former national player, Tan Chung Seang who was seeded 14th suffered a major upset after he was beaten 19-21, 21-19 and 12-21 by Riichi Takeshita of Japan.

Goh Sooh Huat also followed Tan's footstep after losing 16-21 and 16-21 to seventh seed, Lin Dan of China.

Malaysia's sole representative in the women's singles category, Sannatasah Saniru was easily beaten by the top seed, Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea; 6-21 and 13-21.

Amelia Alicia Anscelly and Soong Fie Cho on the other hand, gave a spirited fight before going down 22-24 and 19-21 to fifth seed, Tang Yuanting and Huang Yaqiong of China in the women's doubles category.
