Favourites Kept Apart In Malaysia Cup Draw

KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) -- Defending champion Pahang, Super League champion Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) and Super League runner up Selangor avoided each other in the early stages when the draw for the Malaysia Cup was held Sunday.

In the draw held at the National Sports Institute in Bukit Jalil here, Pahang were drawn in Group A together with FA Cup runner up Felda United FC, Johor Darul Ta'zim II (JDT II) and Lions XII FC.

Super League champion JDT and last year's Malaysia Cup losing finalist Kelantan head Group C with Armed Forces and Penang for company.

Super League runner-up Selangor head Group D together with Premier League champion Police, Sime Darby FC and T-Team while Terengganu head Group B with Sarawak, Perak and Kedah.

The Malaysia Cup competition is scheduled to start on Aug 13.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has decided to maintain the same format as lat year whereby the top two teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals.

The final is slated for Nov 8, at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
