70 Gymnasts From Nine Countries To Vie For Honours In 6th Angel Cup

KUALA LUMPUR, JulY 12 (Bernama) -- Seventy gymnasts from nine countries will be competing in the 6th Angel Cup International Rhythmic Gymnastic Competition at Gymnasium I, National Sports Council Complex, Bukit Jalil here at the end of next week.

Chairman of the organising committee, Dr Teh Lah Hoong said the countries taking part in the biennial event this time around were Australia, the Netherlands. South Korea, the Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.

A major attraction of the meet is the participation of Dutch gymnast, Lisa Vos, 27, who will be competing in the above 16 years category, which is making its debut in this edition.

"The reason why we are introducing the senior category is to encourage our gymnasts not to retire early," Dr Teh told a press conference here Saturday.

Prior to this there were only categories - 13 -15 years and below 12 years.

The Malaysian challengers include Shak Yuki, Chong Lok Yi and Amy Kwan, who will be competing in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games from July 23 to Aug 4.
