Chief Executive Officer of the BMW Group Malaysia, Dr Gerhard Pils said the tournament underlined their commitment to the sport of tennis in the country, from the grassroots level including the BMW Malaysian National Circuit which served as the platform to select talented locals to compete in the Women Tennis Association-sanctioned tournament.
"With the participation of a great selection of top ranking WTA players, we know that this year's tournament is going to be spectacular, raising the benchmark once again to this prestigious tennis event in the region.
"Stay tuned as we have more player names to be revealed in the coming weeks!" Pils said in the statement, today.
President of the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM), Tan Sri Abdul Razak Latiff said they were proud to be part of the tournament while praised the Germany-based carmaker's efforts which always provide the platform for talented local players to develop in the international sporting scene.
"I believe, with the continuation of the BMW Malaysian Open, we will be able to develop the growth of tennis in the country," he said.
The fourth edition of the most premium women's tennis tournament in the country is organised by Carbon Worldwide Sdn Bhd and was sanctioned by the LTAM while BMW Malaysia acts as the title sponsor.
It offers the world ranking points and an increased prize purse of USD250,000 (RM819,874).
