Agong Expresses Satisfaction Over Malaysia-China Ties

BEIJING, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah has expressed satisfaction with the development of cordial bilateral relations between Malaysia and China.

The King also expressed confidence that the strong ties would bring sustainable progress and prosperity to the people and country in the long term.

"The spirit of cooperation and unity between the leaders and the people will see various matters that touched the interests of the people and nation overcome.

"This has proved the maturity of the existing national foreign policies and the readiness of my government to listen and feel the pulse of the people for the wellbeing and prosperity of the country," he said at a dinner with Malaysians here tonight.

The event was also attended by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah, Kedah Tunku Panglima Besar Tunku Puteri Intan Syafinaz and the Malaysian Ambassador to China, Datuk Iskandar Sarudin.

At the function, the Agong also called on the people to be loyal to the country and defend the Federal Constitution.

"Implement your duties honestly with complete dedication and responsibility and as a Malaysian show a good example to the world community and always practise noble values," he said.

Tuanku Abdul Halim also called on students and businessmen to use all the available platform and opportunities wisely.

"We are united in propelling the country into a high income developed nation and we will take on all obstacles along the way," he said.

Earlier Iskandar in his speech said the His Majesty's visit had not only open up a new vista in the relations between both governments, in fact it symbolised the strong ties between Malaysia and China.

The dinner with Malaysians here concluded the three-day visit of the King and the Raja Permaisuri Agong to Beijing which began on Wednesday.

The state visit by the royal couple was at the invitation of China's President Xi Jinping apart from reciprocating Xi's visit to Malaysia in October last year.

The visit was also held in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China which began on May 31, 1974.

Tomorrow, the royal couple will leave for Hangzhou, China for a three-day visit.
