Kuantan Flood Mitigation Project To Get Priority In 2015 Budget Says PM

KUANTAN, July 13 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the federal government will give priority to the flood mitigation project in Kuantan during 2015 Budget and 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK11).

Najib said several technical proposals on the project were discussed at the state development briefing today and the state government has been directed to enhance planning of the project for consideration by the federal government.

"We will give priority to the flood mitigation project in Kuantan as it is deemed critical. I myself saw the sufferings by residents of Sungai Isap during the floods.

"The decision to build bunds or deepen the river will be studied for consideration by the federal government," he said after attending a briefing by deputy state secretary (Development) Datuk Roslan Harun at Wisma Sri Pahang, here Sunday.

Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Yaakob who is also the member of Parliament for Bera and state secretary Datuk Seri Muhammad Saffian Ismail.

Najib said the implementation of the project was a manifestation of the government which reflected its seriousness on election pledges by both the federal and state governments.

He said the other projects to be given priority was the water supply distribution project to rural areas and villages.

"Whether the villages are facing clean water supply, water supply disruption or low water pressure, these projects will be given priority when the government tables the budget for approval," he said.

The government, he said would review the financial allocations to implement infrastructure projects, including roads and highway improvements in the state in the 2015 Budget.
