Sg Buloh-Kajang MRT Project Nearly 40 Per Cent Complete
KAJANG, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The Sungai Buloh- Kajang Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project, which will not cost more than RM23 billion, is nearly 40 per cent complete todate, MRT Corp Sdn Bhd, Strategic Communications and Public Relations director, Amir Mahmood Razak, said Wednesday.
"The overall project is now roughly 37 per cent complete, while underground works have reached an overall progress rate of 51 per cent.
"We have achieved the progress with the strong support from the government, contractors and the community," he told a media briefing on the construction of a special span across the Cheras-Kajang Highway.
Amir said zero accident record so far proved the effectiveness of the comprehensive traffic and safety management during the construction of the massive project.
He said meticulous planning between project delivery partners -- MMC Gamuda KVMRT (PDP) Sdn Bhd and MTD Construction Sdn Bhd -- was done to ensure efficient traffic management at the Cheras-Kajang Grand Saga Highway during the construction of the MRT special span.
The 100-metre special span is in Package V7, under work package contractor, MTD Construction, part of a total 21 special spans to be built for the entire Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT line.
"To make way for the construction, the Cheras-Kajang Highway will be temporarily closed in stages from March 3 for six months.
"The plan will involve temporary closure of traffic lanes on the eight-lane highway in four stages," he said.
Amir said precautionary steps would be taken to minimise traffic impact, which include advanced public notification, sufficient traffic signages, proper lane tapering and having the MRT Ronda on 24-hour standby.
The briefing was attended by MMC Gamuda KVMRT Deputy Director Adil Putra Ahmad and MTD Construction, Project Director, Ahmad Tarmizi.
