Arrest Under Sedition Act Made Due To Threats To Country's Security

SADONG JAYA, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri today said the arrest of several individuals under the Sedition Act lately was due to the presence of threats that could undermine the country's security and harmony.

She said the provocations that were made, including through social websites, clearly reflected their disrespect for other people's religion and culture, as well as the royal institution.

"They made provocations despite knowing it is an offence to do so. What they are doing is just like challenging the government and wanting to see what action will be taken against them," she told reporters after opening a new building block for SJK Chung Hua Jemukan here.

Nancy, who is Batang Sadong Member of Parliament, said the people had the right to freedom of speech, but they should not use it to stir anger or hurt the feelings of others.
