No Confirmation Flight MH17 Was Shot Down - Hishammuddin

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said there is no confirmation yet that Malaysian Airlines (MAS) Flight MH17 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down.

He said Malaysian authorities were still checking on the news reports by an international news agency that the airplane was shot down near the border of Ukraine and Russia.

"No confirmation it was shot down, our military have been instructed to get on it. I'm also in touch with Transport Ministry," he said in his tweet today.

An international news agency had reported that a Malaysian airplane had crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border today.

MAS in its recent tweet, said it lost contact with the flight and the last known position of the flight was over Ukrainian airspace.

An international news agency reported that a Malaysian passenger Boeing 777 airliner with 295 people on board crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border.
