KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- A booth offering tailored clothes made within 24 hours received a positive response after it was introduced at Kraftangan Malaysia's Warna-Warni Aidilfitri programme last week.

Arena Fashion & Design Institute administration manager Azira Zukri, 22, said they had to stop taking orders temporarily yesterday due to an overwhelming amount of orders since the booth opened last Saturday.

"From the first day we set up the booth, we've received orders non-stop with up to 30 pieces on the first day, while the second day we saw an increase with 50 orders.

"Because of the large number we had to stop taking orders yesterday to make way for our workers to complete them first," she told Bernama.

She said the demand was unexpected as this was the first time she was taking part in the programme.

However, Azira hopes that her booth, which also offers alteration services, beading and basic sewing training, will continue to receive good response from the public until the programme ends on July 23.

Meanwhile, the owner of Softique Clozet boutique, Sofiah Mohd Haniff, 50, who sells various goods including clothes, accessories and food, hopes to expand her business and promote her products by joining the programme.

"I also hope by participating, my supplier will also reap profit from the festive season and help them to expand their market," she said.

For batik craft entrepreneur Mohd Zahidi Muhammad, who is promoting batik clothing and accessories with a Hari Raya theme, he chooses to sell batik with traditional designs that use contemporary colours to attract foreign tourists and the younger generation.

The 2014 Warna-Warni Aidilfitri programme is held at the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex from 10am to 10pm. It is also being held at 17 selected shopping centres in Selangor, Melaka, Perak, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
