Kemas To Help Government Explain GST

KOTA BAHARU, July 16 (Bernama) -- The Community Development Department (Kemas) will assist the government in giving explanation on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to the people.

Its Director, Anuar Mat Zain said the briefing sessions would be carried out through Kemas programmes such as the Kemas Kindergarten Mini Convocations and the National-Level Potentials Day to be held in November.

"About 500 of our staff have been given exposures on the GST through courses held by government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

"We also encourage the Voluntary Community Development Assistants (PPMS) to also join in giving briefings especially to the rural folks," he told Bernama when met at his office, here.

The single GST at the rate of six per cent will replace the existing Sales and Service Tax which is at the rate of 16 per cent generally and it will take effect in April next year.
