Najib Hopes Tradition Of Distributing Kampung Baru Bubur Lambuk Will Live On

KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today expressed hope that the tradition of distributing Kampung Baru bubur lambuk (spicy rice porridge) to city dwellers would remain.

Najib said each year, he and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor would contribute and distribute the rice porridge, which was synonymous with Ramadan, to the public at the compound of the Kampung Baru Jamek Mosque, here.

"This year, Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) I am able to be present again here. I see the response to be very encouraging, as there are people who have queued up long for their turn (to receive the porridge). So, I hope we can continue this tradition.

"This can create a much merry atmosphere and elicit feelings of wanting to contribute, a charitable deed that is encouraged, especially during the month of Ramadan," he told reporters after giving out about 12,000 packets of bubur lambuk cooked in 50 huge pots at the mosque grounds.

Najib and Rosmah also spent time visiting the Kampung Baru Ramadan bazaar in Jalan Raja Alang and exchanged greetings with the traders and patrons there.

The prime minister said both traders and visitors benefited from the selling and buying of a wide variety of food at the Ramadan bazaar, adding that the government fixed a low rental rate of RM450 for traders for the month of Ramadan.
