BERNAMA's Reporter Wins Kazakhstan Journalism Award
Her article was among the 42 entries from 23 nations for the 'Kazakhstan in the Eyes of Foreign Media International Contest' organised by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the cooperation of Kazakhstan's Union of Journalists.
According to the statement issued by the ministry, only five winners were chosen to represent the five regions - the Americas, Europe, West Asia, Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Norshazlina, 29, a reporter with the special issues and features desk, won in the Asian region category through her articles on Kazakhstan based on her one week visit to the country in conjunction with the 22nd Independence Anniversary last December.
The first series of the article touched on the architecture, arts and the weather in the capital city of Astana, the second was on the traditional food, including the halal food available in Kazakhstan, and the traditional music and the final series was the attractions at the city of Almaty and the security situation in Kazakhstan.
Norshazlina who has served with BERNAMA for the last seven years said the award has renewed her aspirations to write more and cover more areas of interest.
"This is the first long feature article that I wrote in English and never thought it will win at the Asian level. I'm grateful for winning this award," she said.
The other winners were Neil Marks of Guyana for Americas, Sibylle Greindl from Belgium (Europe), Hussain Ahmad (West Asia) and Ostrovskaya Svetlana from Ukraine who won for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region.
The winners were determined by a panel made up of Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov, the Chairman of Kazakhstan's Union of Journalists Seitkazy Matayev, the General manager of Rixos Hotel in Almaty Ibrahim Chelik and Air Astana Vice President for Public Affairs Bella Tormysheva.
All the five winners received flight tickets to Almaty, Astana and Burabai to join cultural programmes and meet up with officials, academicians, experts, journalists and the scientists of Kazakhstan.
