Marine Police Seize 3,320 Cartons Of Smuggled Contraband Cigarettes

TUMPAT, July 13 (Bernama) -- Marine Police confiscated 3,320 cartons of smuggled contraband cigarettes valued at RM300,000 from a house in Kampung Alur Durian, Wakaf Baharu, on Friday.

Pengkalan Kubor Region 3 Marine Police commanding officer ASP Mohd Nawi Mohd Yunus said a woman in her 40s was also detained at the house during the 11am police raid jointly carried out with the Anti-Smuggling Unit.

In a separate development, he said the marine police also seized 101 containers of petrol which were about to be smuggled out of the country at Pulai Ular, here, early today.

"In the 2am raid, three suspects who were unloading the containers to be smuggled, escaped when they realised the presence of the authorities," he told reporters at the Pengkalan Kubor Marine Operations Force Base here today.

The value of the confiscated goods was estimated at RM6,400.
