100 Children Of Felda Settlers Return After Attending Generasi Global Programme In Limkokwing London

SEPANG, July 13 (Bernama) -- One hundred children of Felda settlers who attended a Generasi Global programme for a semester at the Limkokwing London campus in the United Kingdom, under the Generasi Global initiative, returned home today.

The students who were in London since April were part of an extended initiative of the Generasi Baru programme that moulds scholars in impoverished rural setups into future leaders.

Generasi Baru students are chosen based on their outstanding academic performance to spend a semester at the Limkokwing London campus under the Generasi Global initiative.

They were welcomed by LimKokWing vice president Datuk Fajuraa Juffa Mohd Mustafa Kamal.

Mohd Shahrul Fikree Rosli, 21, from Felda Sungai Panching Timur, Kuantan, Pahang, a Diploma in Graphics student at LimkokWing, said he wished to thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Felda for making it possible to spend a semester in the UK.

"It was a good platform for me to enhance my English and the experience in London was very meaningful because the lifestyle and pace in London is on the fast lane," he told reporters upon arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, here Sunday.

A Diploma in Business Administration student in LimKokWing, Nazirah Abd Hamid, 21, said their main difficulty during their stay in London was the language barrier because there was a difference in the English spoken in Malaysia and London.

"The people in the UK are fast paced, even when they walk. What we experienced there are very valuable lessons in life. It was a different world there but we were able to exchange ideas with students there," said the student from Felda Keratong, Pahang.

The Generasi Baru programme, launched by Najib in 2005, was established to transform the children of Felda settlers throughout the country into industry-savvy graduates.

The programme fits into the government's aspiration to ensure a high-standard of living for all, including rural settlers, under the innovative Government Transformation Plan.
