Wife Of Slain Policeman Remembers Husband's Last Words

SEMPORNA, July 13 (Bernama) -- "Take care of our children," was the last message from slain marine policeman Cpl Ab Rajah Jamuan who was killed in an ambush by intruders at a resort in Pulau Mabul here.

While lamenting the loss of her husband, Salamah Amad, 26, said her husband relayed the message when he contacted her at about 10pm last night and said he would be returning home tomorrow (today).

"Last night I received a short message service (SMS) from my husband that he will be coming home tomorrow (today). However, at about 1am, I was informed my husband was kidnapped before finding out that he was killed in a battle with intruders," a tearful Salamah told reporters at her residence in Batu 2, Jalan Bubul, here Sunday.

She hoped the irresponsible intruders would receive appropriate punishment for their act, from the authorities.

Another marine personnel, Constable Zakia Aleip, 26, reported missing, is also believed to have been kidnapped from the resort, last night.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) Operations director Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun was reported as saying the assailants who used heavy artillery during the shootout at 11.10pm, fled to a neighbouring country after the attack.

Ab Rajah, 32, from Semporna who worked as a helmsman of a patrol boat at the Pulau Mabul police station, had served at Kampung Acheh, Perak for about a year before being transferred to Semporna.

His remains would be laid to rest with police honours before the Zohor prayers at the Kampung Kebun Bunga Muslim cemetery in Jalan Batu 3, here.

Meanwhile, a Bernama survey revealed that the Semporna town was calm with people going about with business activities as normal, despite the incident.

A local resident, Nancy Mitan, said the people were aware of the shooting incident in Pulau Mabul which is about 45 minutes by boat from Semporna.
