Ahmad Zahid Chastises Certain Quarters Which Belittled Police Efforts

BAGAN DATOH, July 12 (Bernama) -- Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has chastised certain quarters which belittled police efforts to stamp out crime due to few media statements highlighting the success of the force.

He said crippling the operations of gambling and drug syndicates, triads and militants through various operations was an ongoing and relentless effort by the police.

"Just because there are less media statements, it is no indication that our operations have stopped.

"(In reality) We are getting information from ongoing raids to take (the necessary) action and we will inform the public on the success of our operations, from time to time.

"Thus, allegations hurled against the police, including the inspector-general of police, that their operations (against crime syndicates) are short-lived, are totally uncalled for," he added.

Ahmad Zahid was speaking to reporters after launching the Bagan Datoh Tadarus Al-Quran Perdana Programme at the Dewan Wisma Umno here Saturday.

In a related development, the minister also reminded some non-governmental organisations (NGO) not to make allegations that the police compromised when taking action against certain parties.

"If they accuse our police personnel of abetting with gambling syndicates, then show us the proof.

"We will not hesitate to take disciplinary and legal action against the errant personnel," he said.

Meanwhile, he said the police were intensifying efforts to track down suspected members of militant groups in the country.

"No one will be spared, whether they are training, trained or received training abroad," he said.
