Three Policemen Die In Ambush In Yala

YALA, July 11 (Bernama) -- Krong Pinang district police deputy chief Adinan Ismail was among the three policemen who were killed in the ambush by 10 armed men here last night.

Their remains were laid to rest early Friday.

In the 10.55 pm ambush, the three policemen were on their way home after performing Terawih prayer at Kampung Ladu, Mukin Said, Krong Pinang.

Deputy Yala police chief, Col Pol Krisda Keawjandi said the assailants were hiding in the nearby rubber plantation when they fired hundreds of shots at the victims' cars when they passed through the area.

"A team of policemen on patrol tried to help and engaged in a 10-minute shoot out with the assailants before they retreated into the jungle. A civilian was also injured," he said.

He said police believed that some of the assailants sustained injuries as there were blood stains found at their hiding place.

Efforts are being done to track them down, he added.
