Rundown Shack Is Home To Family Of 14

KOTA BAHARU, July 8 (Bernama) -- Poverty has driven a single mother to live with 13 others in a rundown shack with plastic roof, bamboo walls and bare floor for the last four years.

The shack is home to Siti Fatimah Muhamad, 56, who lives with seven children, two in-laws and four grandchildren.

Siti Fatimah and her family have lived in the shack after the death of her husband, Mat Amin Awang Yusoff, three years ago.

"I used to live in a wooden house but it was infested with termites and we could only afford to build this shack next to the old house."

"We get a small income as well as RM250 in monthly aid from the Kelantan Islamic Affairs Council, she told reporters after a visit by Kubang Kerian Umno Division head Datuk Muhammad Abdul Ghani in Kampung Demit here today.

Meanwhile, Muhammad said the division would try to help Siti Fatimah by getting her a house.
