MCA Calls For Lower Business Licence Rate In Kajang
Its deputy president, Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, said the party had received 35 complaints from traders and small and medium enterprises on the increase in the MPKj business licence rate for 12 types of business.
"I appeal to the Selangor government to revoke the new business licence rate and revert to the 2013 rate to ease the burden of the people," he told a news conference at the MCA operations room for the Kajang state by-election in Taman Berjaya, here.
Citing an example, Wee said the business licence rate for used car premises had gone up by 282 per cent, from RM390 last year to RM1,490.
The rate for vehicle-repair premises had gone up 167 per cent; tailoring premises, 160 per cent; premises manufacturing frozen foods, 70 per cent; premises processing noodles, 51 per cent and pharmacies, 46 per cent, he said.
Wee said the higher rate had imposed a financial burden on traders and would eventually result in an increase in the cost of products.
Pakatan Rakyat leaders had claimed that they will not impose a burden on the people but the increase in the business licence rate clearly shows that they do not walk the talk," he said.
Wee also expressed disappointment that the local authority did not notify the traders and entrepreneurs of the rise in the business licence rate and they had to find out only when making the payment early this year.
Hulu Langat Small and Medium Industries Association president Ding Hong Sing expressed disappointment over the higher business licence rate and said it imposed a financial burden on SMIs in Selangor.
Ding, who operates a food-processing factory, said the high assessment rate of RM6,000 and the sudden rise in the business licence rate would adversely affect his business.
I hope the MPKj will reduce the business licence rate to last year's rate so that it will not be a financial burden on the SMIs," he said.
