Selangor Water Crisis MoU, Turning Point For Federal Government-Opposition Ties - Gerakan
Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang said Abdul Khalid's action would hopefully, become a turning point to cooperation between the federal government and opposition-held opposite states to implement projects which benefitted the people.
"What Tan Sri Khalid has done is right, he has shown good example and initiative by putting aside political differences.
"We congratulate him for trying to overcome the water crisis in the state that has been prolonged since 2008," he said after presenting a memorandum pertaining to the MoU to Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim here today.
The memorandum was handed over to Anwar's political secretary, Muhammad Shukri Md Saad at the Parti Keadilan Rakyat headquarters here.
Under the MoU, the state government will issue a development order for the construction of the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant or Langat 2, and its distribution system (LRAL2) (Package 2A) and ensure that all approvals and authorisations relating to the LRAL2 project are approved within 30 days.
The federal government is ready to inject additional funds to assist the state government acquire the water concession companies and allow management of the water supply service in Selangor through a state government-owned company.
Tan hoped the MoU would not be the last time Pakatan Rakyat cooperated and accepted efforts undertaken by the federal government for any state under its administration.
"If there are efforts and government projects that could help the people, regardless of the places, Pakatan Rakyat must accept openly and consistently, such efforts without incurring any delay," he said.
The restructuring of the water industry in Selangor is necessary to increase the effectiveness of the water supply service in Selangor, by taking consideration of a more sustainable and efficient service for Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
