Government Pensioners Urged To Be Careful When Giving Opinions
He said all civil servants including pensioners needed to evaluate, filter and consult the authorities before giving any comments or statements to avoid the information from being abused.
"We need to be mature and wise in managing our ideas and views especially in online media, as the Internet has enabled all kinds of opinions to thrown about.
"Some opinions maybe useful to the community but at the same time they could also give negative effects," he said.
He was speaking at the 2014 Home Ministry Appreciation Night to honour the transfer of officers to other ministries and officers going on retirement, here Tuesday night.
Also present were the ministry's secretary-general, Datuk Seri Mohamad Khalid Shariff, its former ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Rahim Mohamad Radzi and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
On civil servant retirees, Ahmad Zahid said the government had granted them various privileges, among them, the pensioner's card which enabled them to obtain treatment at government hospitals and clinics as well as for their wives, and children under 21 years old.
"Last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the '1Malaysia Privilege Card' for army and police personnel, which is now extended to about 725,000 government pensioners.
"Through the card, retirees can enjoy discounts of up to 25 per cent at selected shops," he said.
Apart from that, in each budget, the government had not forgotten about government pensioners when granting bonus, for example in 2013, the minimum amount was raised from RM720 to RM820, he added.
