Sabah Police Open 48 Disciplinary Investigation Papers On Its Personnel
KOTA KINABALU, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- As many as 48 disciplinary investigation papers involving various offences committed by officers and members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Sabah had been opened from January until Feb 23, said Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib.
He said the number was a 108 per cent increase from the 23 cases during the same period last year.
Hamza said the disciplinary cases involved abuse of power, crime, disciplinary violation while on duty and several cases of corruption.
"Whatever offences committed by our officers, other ranks or civilian staff, whether they are committed blatantly or we get accusation letters, we will open a disciplinary investigation paper.
"If the investigation proves that they have committed an offence, we will take action under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993," he told reporters after attending the agency's monthly gathering at the Sabah Contingent Police headquarters, here Tuesday.
According to Hamza, PDRM would not compromise on any infringement of regulation and abuse of power among its members so as to preserve police integrity and ensure the trust of the public towards the agency.
Earlier, in his speech, Hamza reminded officers and team supervisors to play an active role and not be afraid to reprimand officers or members under them who committed an offence so that any undesired action conducted could be avoided and disciplinary cases reduced.
He said all officers and members of the force must have a positive attitude towards their responsibilities and avoid a negative attitude such as refusing to accept reports, not taking action or delaying in giving feedback on public complaints.
Hamza reminded the police personnel to be transparent and efficient in investigating all reports made by the public and act on the information given to them.
