Three ATM Water Tankers Mobilised In Balakong - Hishammuddin
KAJANG, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Three Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) water tankers, with a capacity of 10,000 litres each, have been mobilised to help 35,000 residents in Balakong, faced with the current water crisis.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said a directive had been issued to ATM to assist affected areas, including Balakong.
"This is also a part of our effort to ensure ATM are really close to the society. In situations like this, ATM must help," he told reporters after a visit in conjunction with a gotong royong and distribution of aid to the people of Kampung Sri Jambu, Kajang here, today.
Meanwhile, Rukun Tetangga Balakong co-coordinator Major (B) Abdul Rohm Mohr Amin said the water supply could be channeled to the affected area in Taman Impian Ehsan, Balakong which has 20 housing estates.
"The water crisis started 14 days ago and the water supply will be beneficial to about 35,000 affected residents," he said.
Hishammuddin, in the meantime, said the main issue which had to be tackled by Barisan Nasional in Kajang was the shortage of water supply and the dengue menace.
"As such, today, we have harnessed the National Service Volunteer Brigade, including ATM and local communities to clean up residential and surrounding areas," he said.
During the gotong royong, about 100 soldiers and 150 members of the National Service Volunteer Brigade jointly carried out a cleaning exercise at Taman Sri Jambu, Kajang.
