Aggregate Income Of 171 Cooperatives In Perlis For IH2014 At RM32.5 Million

KANGAR, July 12 (Bernama) -- The aggregate income of the 171 cooperatives in Perlis for the first half of the year was at an estimated RM32.5 million, said Cooperatives Commission Malaysia (CCM) Perlis director, Amran Abdul Kadir.

He said most of the cooperatives were involved in the agricultural sector which was also their principal source of income.

He told reporters this after witnessing the signing of a building sale and purchase agreement as well as advance payment between Konsortium Koperasi Tanaman Padi Perlis Bhd (Konsortium Koperasi) and the developer of Putra Height, Kok Klang, IMG Incorporated Sdn Bhd (IMG) here Saturday.

Konsortium Koperasi was represented by its chairman Othman Jaya and IMG by Goh Kee Long, a director.

Amran said 75,500 people in Perlis were members of the 171 cooperatives with a collective capital of RM67 million and assets worth more than RM119.6 million.

"The cooperatives can venture into potential areas that have yet to be explored such as the hospitality sector and managing petrol stations in Perlis, other than focusing on padi estates and jackfruit plantations," he added.

He said the CCM was willing to consider assistance of up to RM10 million for those cooperatives having plans to implement projects that can succeed.

Meanwhile, Othman said Konsortium Koperasi had consolidated 10 padi planting based cooperatives to take a RM1 million loan from the Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Bhd (ANGKASA) to buy two single-storey terrace houses worth RM362,000 at Putra Height.

Once completed, the houses will be rented out to a company to house students of the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Perlis.
