January PPI Rises 2.6 Per Cent To 127.9
In a statement Friday, the department said month-on-month, the domestic PPI declined by 0.2 per cent from 128.1 in December 2013, due to the decrease in the PPI for local production by 0.3 per cent.
However, the decrease was offset by an increase in the import price index (IPI) by 0.4 per cent, it said.
"The decrease of 0.3 per cent in PPI for local production by stage of processing, was due to the negative changes in the index for crude materials for further processing and intermediate materials, supplies and components.
"Meanwhile, the index for finished goods increased," it added.
The PPI for local production dipped 0.3 per cent in January as compared to the previous month, due to the positive changes in two categories, mining which declined 1.7 per cent while agriculture slipped 0.5 per cent.
As for the IPI, January 2014 moved up by 0.4 per cent to 113.4 from the 112.9 recorded in January last year.
It said an increase in prices was found in eight commodity sections, namely food (up 3.2 per cent), animal and vegetable oils and fats (increased 2.4 per cent), chemicals (added 2.1 per cent), mineral fuels, lubricants, etc (rose 1.5 per cent), crude materials, inedible (improved 1.4 per cent), miscellaneous manufactured articles (up 1.2 per cent), beverages and tobacco (gained 0.2 per cent) and manufactured goods (plus 0.1 per cent).
Month-on-month, the IPI improved 0.4 per cent to 113.4 from 113 in January 2013.
