Felda Launches Frozen Products For UAE Market
Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad said the products are Aloo Curry Puff, Sweet Potato Cake, Tapioca Cake, Doughnuts, Sambal Fried Buns, Red Bean Fried Buns and Aloo Fried Buns.
Apart from the seven, Felda will also be supplying three local fruits,namely, pineapples,bananas and rock melon to the hypermarket chain which is among the biggest in the country.
"We have reached an understanding with Lulu Hypermarket, and it is keen on marketing our products," he said.
He told Bernama this after launching the products at the Malaysian Pavilion of the five-day Gulfood 2014 International Food Exhibition which began today at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) here.
Mohd Isa said for a start, Felda will send a container load of the products valued at RM150,000 next month to Lulu Hypermarket.
"We will await the response of the local people to our products.If it is encouraging, we plan to send about 15 containers monthly," he added.
He said the entry will hopefully be a gateway for other Felda products to penetrate the Gulf market and surrounding areas.
"If all goes well, we will add on products of Delima Oil Products,a subsidiary of Felda Holdings Bhd, such as margarine and cooking oil," he added.
Mohd Isa said the participation of Felda at the Gulfood 2014 can be a good platform for it to introduce and promote the seven frozen products manufactured by small medium enterprises to the global stage.
"This is not the first time Felda is participating at Gulfood.But we are taking the opportunity to introduce products produced by our entrepreneurs who number 30,000 at present, and of whom about 30 have raked up annual sales of RM1 million," he added.
Felda general manager Datuk Faizound Ahmad said the participation at Gulfood this year is a start for the company to create a network among buyers and potential distributors globally.
He said part of Felda's Transformation Programme is to enhance the quality of life of its entrepreneurs by exporting their products to the global stage.
"Felda began the initiative to market high quality products produced by these entrepreneurs in 2011 and to date have penetrated the markets of the United Kingdom and Singapore," he added.
Gulfood is an annual affair embracing trade in food and beverages and this year's event has seen the participation of 4,500 exhibitors from 120 countries.
