Iranian Automaker To Make New Car Model Called "Azerbaijan"

BAKU, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- An Iranian automaker plans to produce a new automobile that will be called simply "Azerbaijan".

The "Azerbaijan" model is slated to hit roads next year, Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AzerTAc) quoted Iran's First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi as saying to Iranian Mehr news agency.

"The Iranian nation is proud of the fact that the supreme leader of Iran was born in Tabriz. During his visit to Tabriz, President Ahmadinejad gave a promise, one of which will soon be implemented. This is the promise associated with the production of automobiles 'Azerbaijan'," Rahimi said.

The new car model "Azerbaijan" will be produced by Iran Khodro, the Middle East's largest passenger car manufacturer. The automaker produced Iran's first domestic-made car, Samand.
