Britain To Donate 10 Million Pounds For Indonesia's Emission Reduction Programme
JAKARTA, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Britain will donate 10 million pound sterling (about US$16.8 million) to help Indonesia in implementing emission reduction programme, Indonesia's Antara news agency cited an online news as saying on Wednesday.
According to British Minister for Energy and Climate Change Joan Ruddock, the fund would be allocated more for energy sufficient-power plant construction.
Ruddock said her government is involving in cooperation with Indonesia's Ministry for Energy and Mineral Resources to build carbon capturers and storages so that Indonesia could reduce emission resulted from coal use, Antara cited an online news as saying.
Besides, she added, her government is also in talks with Indonesia in developing palm industry.
"So, there will be much cooperation in various levels that need funding aid from the UK, where we have prepared the fund," said Ruddock.
She also said that her country is ready to provide additional fund if Indonesia still needs it.
"We could increase the funding. The fund would not only come from the UK, but it will be from other international communities," she said.
Meanwhile Indonesia's Economy Coordinating Minister Hatta Rajasa said that the additional fund would be provided if Indonesia could reduce carbon emission to 26 percent from 41 percent by 2020.
Hatta said that during the meeting, he told Ruddock about Indonesian programs in reducing carbon emission, namely with using renewable energies and combining natural resources and energy as well as forest management.
