Mohd Rizal Given Best Treatment, Says Ahmad Shabery

PETALING JAYA, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- National cyclist Mohd Rizal Tisin, who was injured in a road accident last Wednesday, will be provided with the best treatment so that he would be able to compete as soon as possible, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek said on Friday.

Mohd Rizal, who created a Malaysian cycling history by winning a bronze medal in the 1km Time Trial at the World Track Cycling Championship in Poland in March this year, underwent a four-hour operation on the left ankle at the Damansara Specialist Hospital.

"I have been informed that Mohd Rizal will recover soon. Only that, he will have to undergo a rehabilitation process which will be handled by the National Sport Institute," Ahmad Shabery told reporters after visiting Mohd Rizal at the hospital here.

Ahmad Shabery, who was briefed on Mohd Rizal's condition by the hospital's orthopaedic consultant, Dr Gan Eng Cheng, said Mohd Rizal would be able to return to the track in three months.

Coincidentally, there is no major championship in the next few months and he could focus on his recovery process, he added.
