Zambry Asks Nizar To Vacate President's Post Of Cash-Strapped Perak FA
IPOH, July 1 (Bernama) -- Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir wants former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin to give up the president's post of cash-strapped Perak Football Association (Perak FA).
Zambry said since the financial status of Perak FA was critical, it would be better for someone else to take over the leadership of the association.
"It is entirely up to him to give up the post but looking at the current situation, he should give way for somebody else to take charge," he told reporters after chairing a state legislative assembly meeting here Wednesday.
He was responding to claims that the Perak FA had failed to pay the salary of players and officials for the month of June.
Zambry said the state government would however, try to help Perak FA, in trying to resolve the salary issue.
"This a sport for the people and we will try to help the players and officials who are faced with financial difficulties," he said.
The performance of the Perak team, playing in the Super League, was said to have dropped since learning that the Perak FA's financial status was critical since it would only be able to pay their wages until May, if the state government did not step in to assist.
Nizar won the president's post unopposed, on Nov 16, 2008, at the Perak FA Annual General Meeting.
